The Windsor Optimist Youth Band

The Windsor Optimist Youth Band is a community marching band that has been pleasing audiences locally, across the country and around the world for over 40 years. The basic morals of discipline, teamwork and bettering oneself are the main lessons learned in a fun and rewarding atmosphere. The band entertains people on the street in local parades, community, and sporting events, and also puts on three big concerts a year. This gives the group the opportunity to show off that they can not only put on a great show on the move, but are also talented and dedicated musicians who love to learn all they can about their craft. The band is composed of youth ages 12 to 21 and is completely run by a group of amazing volunteers. The opportunity for travel is a major motivation for most to join. Over the last decade they have travelled to Germany, Baltimore, Calgary and Florida. That's not to mention local travel, which includes Windsor/Essex County and some travel to Michigan. Port Huron, Lincoln Park and Wyandotte are annual events. Overall the band is an amazing experience that reaches out to young musicians and gives them a chance to grow, not only in their musical abilities but also many other aspects of their lives.
