Formed in 1966, The Windsor Optimist Youth Band is a special project of The Optimist Club of Windsor. The band serves the greater Windsor area by performing for parades, festivals, standstill and park concerts, and other special events and can be seen performing throughout Windsor, Essex County, Ontario and Michigan. Some of the regularly scheduled events include appearances at The Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival and The Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest and the Niagara Wine Festival.

A community-minded organization, The Windsor Optimist Youth Band is highly in demand and has consistently earned top awards in competition. The dedication on the part of instructional staff and parent volunteers has ensured the continuity of the unit. Today, the band enjoys a high profile in the City of Windsor and surrounding area and is highly regarded for musical presentation and band and colour guard routines.
