Colour Guard

Colour Guard

The colour guard consists of the front flag line, and the flag dancers. The Front guard is responsible for the banner displaying the band's name as well as the colours. The colours are the flags of the countries. The Optimist band usually flies the Optimist flag, the Canadian flag, and if the parade is in the States, the American flag. The colour guard (flag dancers) choreographs routines to the songs performed by the band. Also, at the band camp concert, they perform an exhibition piece that involves much more technical choreography as well as their own choice of music. They also have their own director on parade called the Guard Sergeant. It's their job to coordinate when the guard moves into the starting position of each song. They also act as a mentor to the rest of the guard because they are usually the most experienced.
