Drum Major

Drum Major

The drum majors control the band on the street. They give the commands that the band follows and decide which songs are played when. They are strong role models for the rest of the band. They are supposed to set an example for the other band members to follow but most importantly they act as a liaison between the band and the instructors. If a band member is unhappy about the way something in the band was handled they bring the problem to a drum major, and if the drum major feels they can't handle the situation they talk to an instructor about it and do the best they can to get it worked out. The position has to be auditioned for and the candidates are put through a number of challenging tests. These tests include conducting skills tests, marching skills, and an interview. This means that the drum majors are usually the more experienced members, and although they teach a lot to younger members, they also learn a lot along the way. drum major
