Horn Section

The Horn Section

The horn section consists of piccolos, flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, melophones, trumpets, trombones, baritones and tubas. They set up in the parade block with piccolos and flutes first, then the clarinets, followed by the alto saxes and the melophones, then the trumpets, the tenor saxes, the trombones, the baritones and the tubas. They line up five across and the number of rows varies on the attendance; usually there are six or seven. They are responsible for staying in dress (straight lines) and for following all commands given by the drum majors. These commands include: band-ten-hut, horns-up-move, horns-down move, dress-center-dress, mark-time-mark, band-parade-rest and a few others. These commands also apply to the drum line and colour guard.
